Press 254 Chapbook launch event

Tuesday, December 6th 2016
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Event Description

Two writers will give readings of their new chapbooks at a Publications Unit launch event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, in the Williams Hall Annex on ISU’s campus.

Marion Sakaluk will read from her new collection of short fiction, “Skinwork,” and Mike Shier will read from his new work, “Escapology/The Gun That Won The West.” The event, sponsored by the Department of English’s Publications Unit at Illinois State University, is free and open to the public.

Marion Sakaluk received her master’s degree in English Studies from Illinois State University in 2016, from which she also earned a Graduate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies. She is the recipient of the 2014-2015 Sutherland Fellowship. She has lived and worked in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, for 15 years. “Skinwork” is her first chapbook.

Mike Shier has an M.F.A. in creative writing from Florida Atlantic University and is currently in the last year of his Ph.D. program for the same at Illinois State University. His poetry has most recently appeared in Grist and Juked, and his creative nonfiction can be found in Menacing Hedge and the upcoming Other Orlandos anthology from Burrow Press. He currently serves as the assistant creative nonfiction editor for The Florida Review.

Both chapbooks are published through PRESS 254, a workshop that publishes emerging writers from the ISU and Bloomington-Normal communities and provides editing, design, production, distribution and marketing services for their chapbook-length works. It seeks to help launch these writers by putting them in contact with local and national audiences receptive to their work and to break down the barriers between artists, publishers and audiences.

PRESS 254 encourages members of the ISU community and the general public to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.

If you will need special accommodations, please contact the event organizer.
