Tired of Exams? Formative Assessment through Student Reflection
Traditional exams can do a good job assessing recall and comprehension, but they do not necessarily provide insight into students’ deeper understanding. Reflective writing throughout the semester can be a powerful way to assess students? deeper learning. In this workshop, you will develop an overview of how reflective content writing assignments can provide opportunities for both formative and summative assessment. Through small group work, you will explore practical methods for implementing this type of assessment in your course. You will leave the workshop with the outline of one reflective writing assignment that you can use next semester in your courses.
