Event Description

Are you looking for an exciting, family-friendly activity this New Year’s Eve?  If so, then consider the Illinois State University Planetarium.  We are offering free, full-dome planetarium shows to thank the community for its support and celebrate the new year!

The ISU Planetarium will offer “Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope” throughout the evening on New Year’s Eve, December 31.  The show will be presented on the hour, starting at 6 PM.  The last program begins at 10 PM.

Two Small Pieces of Glass” follows two students as they explore the night sky with an astronomer at a local star party.  Along the way, the students learn the history of the telescope from Galileo’s child-like spyglass — using two small pieces of glass — to the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and beyond.  Geared for audiences of all ages, the show explores many wonders discovered by astronomers over the last 400 years.

These special New Year’s Eve programs are free and open to the public.  Doors open shortly before each show.  Seating is limited and first-come first-serve.

The ISU Planetarium is located under the white domed roof at the eastern end of Felmley Hall of Science Annex.  Felmley Hall is located on the northeast corner of the ISU campus at the intersection of College Avenue and School Street.

Free parking is available a short distance from the ISU Planetarium in University parking lot F-67, located on the east side of School Street.
