Children in Cages: Speaking of the Unspeakable
Dr. Kathleen O’Gorman, Professor of English at Illinois Wesleyan University, will present a talk entitled, “Children in Cages: Speaking of the Unspeakable”, at 4:30 p.m. at the University Club in the Founders Suite in the Bone Student Center. Dr. O’Gorman is a volunteer translator for lawyers interviewing detained immigrant children at the southern border of the U.S. She was part of the group who uncovered the shocking conditions in Customs and Border Patrol facilities exposed this past summer. She will talk about those findings from her personal perspective, not as an official representative of the organization for which she volunteers. Her experiences were profiled in the October 16, 2019 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education. You need not be a University Club member to attend.
Everyone from the Illinois State University community is welcome including all staff, faculty, annuitants, graduate students and other members of the University. Please join us at the University Club from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Founders Suite in the Bone Student Center. Talks commence at 4:30 p.m. Of course, snacks and liquid refreshments are available at each meeting. Please add this to your schedule. We look forward to seeing you.
