Wu-Morse Duo with Special Guests at the ISU Planetarium
Event Description

Improvisatory musicians Allen Shu-cheng Wu, Barry R. Morse, and Jason Finkelman will be featured during a weekend of live, experimental, electro-acoustic music at the Illinois State University Planetarium. Performances are Friday, January 20 at 7:30 PM; and Saturday, January 21 at 2 PM and 7:30 PM.
The concert is titled “Mercury Rising: A Mid-Winter Celebration of Space and Sound” and will be presented under the ISU Planetarium stars. Joining Wu, Morse, and Finkelman is special guest, award-winning composer Dr. John Nichols.
Each unique performance will feature “soundscape” improvisations. These are free-form, unrehearsed, real-time sound compositions made from unpredictable combinations of musical sounds and noises which are not random, but guided by musical training, intuition, and personal aesthetics. Unlike recorded music, live improvisation is ephemeral, in-the-moment events, and never to be experienced exactly the same way again — much like life itself.
Admission for these special performances at the ISU Planetarium is $10 for adults and $5 for guests ages 5-17 and seniors. Cash or checks only. Tickets may be purchased in the ISU Planetarium Gift Shop, next to the Planetarium, beginning 20 minutes before each show. Seating is limited.
The ISU Planetarium is located in the Felmley Hall of Science Annex, at the intersection of College Avenue and School Street, in Normal. Free parking is available a short distance from the ISU Planetarium in University parking lot F-67, on the east side of School Street.
