University Galleries of Illinois State University has developed a multivalent approach to exhibitions and support for artists. Our exhibitions feature both emerging and established artists, often those whose work has not been previously presented in a comprehensive manner.

University Galleries is open year-round: daily throughout the academic year and Monday-Saturday during the summer. All exhibitions and events are free and open to the general public.

Berdis will invite participants to march with him, in a parade-like manner, from University Galleries to the University’s Quad where a hobby-horse race will commence. University Galleries will host a participatory performance by artist Eric Anthony Berdis on Monday, October 28th. Informed by Allen Ginsberg’s poem, “The Sunflower Surta,” Berdis’ second performance is titled Don’t forget you are a sunflower and will take place in University Galleries surrounded by his work. During each performance Berdis will introduce himself using his name and pronouns, then will invite participants to do the same. The personal introductions will initiate a broader conversation about safe and inclusive spaces.
